My primary passion is plant identification, and to do this well means not only studying the plants directly, but also integrating a solid understanding of floristics, phylogenetics, systematics, taxonomy, vegetation analysis, and biogeographic issues. My primary research foci are floristics and Polygalaceae, but I am a generalist at heart and have been involved in projects with several different families and in many different geographic regions. One of my favorite activities is teaching others about plant identification, which also necessitates addressing the other above topics (when there is time). Polygalaceae (milkworts) were the focus of my PhD research and have been the impetus for many of my research trips and publications. Stay tuned, as I intend to eventually develop an expanded Polygalaceae page.
